Jewelry has always held a fascination for Audrey, whose first adventures in its creation involved handmade lampwork beads and antique typewriter keys. Her creative muse has always led her to a unique, artisan approach to design. Her passion for creating jewelry soon led her to accept a position as a bench jeweler for a jewelry store where she was fortunate enough to come under the tutelage of a Master Jeweler. Under his guidance, Audrey’s skills expanded to metalsmithing and stone setting, and a new path for her art emerged. Each new technique led to another design idea, and it wasn’t long before designing jewelry had become one of her life's passions. Her most recent series of reticulated silver designs celebrate the raw beauty of metal. Starting with a proprietary recipe for an alloy, the metal is melted into a shimmering puddle of liquid. The textures and dimension on the surface are dictated by the metal used during the reticulation process. Once the desired texture is achieved, a torch is used to draw out and highlight the naturally occurring patinas within the metal. The end result is the culmination of Audrey’s love of her material and the inspiration of her creative process. The jewelry you see on these pages was envisioned by her and created with her hands and tools -- each piece handcrafted at her bench. No two pieces are alike, even if they share a similar design theme. In a day and age of mass production and machine fabrication, such original, hands-on designs are rare.
